This was stated by official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexander Lukashevich, answering questions from journalists, the official website of the ministry reports.
“Due to the non-recognition of the fact of the reunification of Crimea and Sevastopol with the Russian Federation, the EU countries have closed their consular offices and visa centers on the territory of the peninsula and accept documents for issuing visas only at consular offices located on the territory of Ukraine. The victims of this policy are residents of Crimea and Sevastopol, who for obvious reasons experience serious difficulties in obtaining Schengen visas,” Lukashevich noted.
In this situation, he emphasized, the regular statements of state and socio-political figures from EU countries, “concerned” about the alleged violations of human rights, primarily of the Crimean Tatars, in Crimea and Sevastopol, smack of demagogy.”
At the same time, the representative of the Foreign Ministry noted, the European Union, by creating obstacles to the issuance of visas to Crimeans, is deliberately pursuing a policy of actually limiting the right of the peninsula’s residents to freedom of movement.
“We believe that this, in fact, is an unjustified collective punishment of the population of the peninsula, about whose fate and rights the EU is so concerned. At the same time, the European Union prefers not to remember that these discriminatory measures equally affect all residents of Crimea and Sevastopol, including Tatar, Greek, German, Italian and other nationalities,” concluded Alexander Lukashevich.
