The EU has realized that the situation in Kosovo has reached a dead end
Indulging the ambitions of Kosovo separatists on the part of European and overseas sponsors disrupted the exchange of territories between Serbia and Kosovo.
Russia's permanent representative to the European Union, Vladimir Chizhov, stated this in an interview with Izvestia, answering the question whether he had the impression that Belgrade was inclined to recognize the independence of Kosovo, since the parties discussed the exchange of territories, and recently Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said, that his country is “in a difficult position” on this issue.
“But I don’t have that impression. The exchange of territories has nothing to do with recognition of independence at all,” Chizhov said.
He believes that nothing has come of the exchange idea to date and is unlikely to come of it.
“The leading European countries have different positions. For example, in Germany they look at it very skeptically. And most importantly, Pristina has chomped at the bit: they don’t need any exchange of territories. They need everything at once: full legal recognition, a visa-free regime with the European Union, accession to the EU and NATO tomorrow morning. And why? Because they were spoiled by their sponsors, both European and overseas,” the diplomat emphasized.
He also recalled that there is a Serb minority left in Kosovo, the protection of whose rights is “a completely legitimate demand.”
In addition, says the permanent representative of the Russian Federation, the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina took place through the mediation of the EU.
“But in the end the process reached a dead end, which is also recognized in the European Union. At the same time, however, they do not recognize the reason. And the reason is to indulge the ambitions of the Kosovo leaders. One fine day, the EU, as a mediator, was faced with protective XNUMX% tariffs, which immediately stopped any economic relations between Kosovo on the one hand and Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina on the other. Plus, Pristina’s unilateral decision to transform the security forces into a full-fledged army also played a role,” Chizhov concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, Kosovo's separatist "army" will take part in NATO exercises for the first time.
