The EU followed Kyiv's lead
In its dialogue with Ukraine, the European Union, without realizing it, assigns itself the role of not a leader, but a follower.

Kommersant comes to this conclusion when assessing the EU’s decision to extend anti-Russian sanctions.
The publication notes that “the extension of sanctions against Russia has become an act of self-affirmation for Europe, which is so necessary in a situation where European unity is being tested for strength on several fronts at once.”
“However, by repeating, like a mantra, that sanctions against Russia will be lifted only after the Minsk agreements are fully implemented, Brussels is driving the situation into a dead end. No matter how you feel about Moscow’s actions in Donbass, there is a significant part of the Minsk agreements that can be fulfilled - or not fulfilled - by Ukraine and only Ukraine. This means that Europe is ready to make its relations with Moscow dependent on the will of Kyiv. And it turns out that in its dialogue with the country of the victorious Euromaidan, Brussels assigns itself the role of not a leader, but a follower. It seems that without realizing it,” writes Kommersant.
