The EU trampled on the “wrong” Crimean bridge
The Kerch Bridge to Crimea, built by Russia, “violates the sovereignty of Ukraine,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is stated in a statement by EU representative Maja Kocijancic, published today by the press service of the European External Action Service.
“The Russian Federation built the Kerch Bridge in Crimea without the consent of Ukraine. This is another violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine by Russia. The construction of the bridge is aimed at further forced integration of the illegally annexed peninsula with Russia and its isolation from Ukraine, of which it is a part,” the statement said.
The EU complained that the bridge “restricts the passage of ships through the Kerch Strait to Ukrainian ports in the Sea of Azov.”
“The European Union continues to condemn the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia and does not recognize this violation of international law,” the statement said.
Let us remind you that on May 15, Russia officially opened the Crimean Bridge across the Kerch Strait. Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the ceremony. Car traffic on the bridge will start on May 16 at 5.30 am.
