The legislation on these measures will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union on Friday, and the sanctions will come into force on Saturday, reports Interfax.
“From December 20, investments in Crimea or Sevastopol are prohibited. Europeans and EU companies can no longer buy real estate or companies in Crimea, finance Crimean companies or provide related services,” says a communiqué issued in Brussels.
Also, EU operators will no longer be able to offer tourism services in Crimea or Sevastopol. In particular, European cruise ships will no longer be able to enter Crimean ports, except in emergency cases. This applies to all ships owned or controlled by EU representatives or flying the flag of a Member State. Currently existing cruise contracts can be valid until March 20, 2015, the document notes.
“In addition, it was prohibited to export certain goods and technologies to Crimean enterprises or for their use in Crimea. This applies to transport, telecommunications, the energy sector, exploration and production of oil, gas and mineral resources,” the communiqué said.
