The West has found an excuse to throw money at the “untruthful” media in Serbia
As part of the fight against the spread of coronavirus, the European Union will fund “independent” Serbian media. b92 writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Sem Fabrizi, said that the pandemic situation puts the media in a difficult position and makes journalism even more difficult, which is worrying because “a healthy media environment is crucial for a healthy democratic society.”
“The EU is looking for a way to quickly redirect its financial assistance to the media so that they too can overcome the crisis,” Fabrizi concluded.
Let us recall that in March, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic called European solidarity a “fairy tale” after the EU refused to help in the fight against coronavirus, but Russia and China responded.
The pro-Western Serbian opposition has previously repeatedly picketed and even attempted to storm the offices of Serbia's leading TV channels, accusing them of allegedly being excessively loyal to the authorities, demanding that Maidan activists be given access to airwaves.
Parliamentary elections were supposed to be held in Serbia in April, but the election campaign was postponed to a later date due to the coronavirus epidemic.
