Liliya Shevtsova, an employee of the British analytical center Chatham House, stated this in an interview with the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe”, saying that it is not yet known to what extent Washington is ready to publish a new list of anti-Russian sanctions.
“But the sanctions list that was proposed to Washington was, as we know, torpedoed, and not at all in Washington - it was torpedoed by European governments, primarily Germany and France, as well as European businesses. And it was precisely under pressure from their European partners that the Americans were forced to limit their sanctions appetites and abandon restrictive measures against a number of Russian companies and forget about Nord Stream 2. When introducing sanctions, the Americans should also think about what their European partners think about this . And Europe is not ready to form a united anti-Russian sanctions front together with the United States,” the expert laments.
However, she added that it is still not clear “whether the Americans only want to contain Russian interests, pursue a policy of retaliation, or use the threat of sanctions simply as a warning.”
