The EU is furious: the Federation Council of the Russian Federation unanimously supported Serbia’s accession to the FTA with the EAEU
The Federation Council of the Russian Federation ratified the Agreement on a free trade zone between the EAEU and the Republic of Serbia.
The document was presented by the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Dzhabarov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He recalled that this agreement was signed in Moscow on October 25 last year with the aim of forming the appropriate WTO norms and basic rules of trade between the EAEU member states and Serbia.
At the same time, he noted that the agreement was ratified in Serbia and Belarus - “in the remaining member states of the EAEU, the internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of the agreement are currently being carried out.”
“The agreement provides that the parties shall not apply customs duties or any charges having an equivalent effect to customs duties on the import or in connection with the import of goods originating from the territory of one of the parties. The agreement does not contradict the treaty on the EAEU and other international obligations of the Russian Federation,” Dzhabarov said and added that the committees of the Federation Council support this document, and also called on his colleagues to approve the ratification.
There were no questions for the speaker or anyone willing to speak. This federal law was unanimously supported by 125 votes.
In this way, this document becomes the first agreement Eurasian Economic Union on a free trade zone with a European country.
However, this initiative caused a storm irritation in the West back in the fall of last year. In addition, the day before, Moscow noted that now Serbia can join the EU only after the denunciation of this agreement, which means this will not happen in the foreseeable future.
