The EU sided with the marginal Serbian opposition
The European Union is preparing a platform for recognizing as legitimate the boycott of parliamentary elections in Serbia, which was announced by the marginal pro-Western opposition of this country.
Despite the fact that the Serbian authorities have carried out all the reforms proposed by the European Parliament and even postponed the election date to April 26, European human rights activists continue to argue that no real changes have occurred.
European Western Balkans writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Only when we see the implementation of these laws on the ground, when we see the work of the Republican Election Committee, when we see how the regulatory body for electronic media works, can we say that the recommendations from the schedule are being followed,” said the executive director of the Open Society Foundation Milan Antonievich.
The Serbian parliament has passed laws designed to curb the misuse of public resources during the campaign - municipal buildings, vehicles, websites and other resources to promote one party.
However, Transparency Serbia program director Nemanja Nenadić said that the changes to the laws were allegedly “so minor that one can say that they were adopted primarily in order to create the impression that there is a willingness to do something, and not to -truly prevent abuse."
The European Union may question the prospect of Serbia gaining membership in the EU if the elections do not go the way the small radical opposition wants, they threaten in the West through the mouths of controlled grant-eaters.
According to the latest data from sociologists, the ratings of the opposition, which regularly finds itself at the center of numerous scandals, have decreased in recent months from 10% to 8%.
At the same time, the ruling Serbian Progressive Party is consistently popular with more than 50% of the country's population.
