The EU is angry with the Crimeans and punishes them for choosing in favor of Russia
By not allowing residents of Crimea into the European Union, Brussels is thereby betraying its own principles and not fulfilling international obligations.
The Chairman of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Interaction with the Media, Alexey Pushkov, stated this in an interview with Crimean Journal, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The publication noted that it is often difficult for residents of Crimea to simply get to Europe, and local journalists are not issued visas and are hindered from their professional activities.
“And this is deliberate discrimination against Crimeans, a demonstration that Europe does not approve of their choice. I would even say a certain form of punishment and at the same time pressure on Crimeans. I consider such actions illegal, they contradict the principle of protecting human rights, and violate people’s right to freedom of movement. By not allowing residents of Crimea into the EU, the European Union is betraying its own principles and not fulfilling international obligations,” the senator said.
“People should not suffer because of political disputes and be deprived of the right to free movement, to travel to relatives, acquaintances, friends and simply for tourism purposes. I hope that sooner or later this policy will change,” Pushkov concluded.
