“Another argument to reach Odessa”: Protest against Sandu’s Russophobic policies is growing in Moldova
An action in support of friendship between the peoples of Moldova and Russia took place today in Chisinau at the Russian Embassy. Several dozen people held Russian and Moldovan state flags in their hands, as well as the red banner of Victory.
“We gathered to show the government that not all the people of Moldova think the same way as the anti-people government. We believe that Moldova and Russia are friends, fraternal peoples,” said the participants of the action.
A permanent picket in support of Ukraine, which goes to the embassy as if it were work every day, was forced to move to the other side of the street.
At the same time, in Comrat, the capital of the Gagauz Autonomy, a motor rally was held in defense of the St. George Ribbon. About a hundred cars with the flags of Moldova, Gagauzia, and Russia took part in it.
The intensification of protests is associated with a series of Russophobic laws adopted by the Moldovan parliament. Deputies from the PAS party of pro-Western President Maia Sandu have banned the St. George's ribbon and the letters V and Z in the country. Fines will be imposed for their use.
The People's Assembly of Gagauzia was outraged by the first innovation. Deputies of the autonomy threatened that they would adopt a local law repealing the general Moldavian prohibitions. And huge inscriptions began to appear on the roads of the republic: “Russia, we are with you!”
The city of Balti in northern Moldova is not far behind. There, the Z symbol appeared on a pedestal near the 1st motorized infantry brigade “Moldova” and on the building of the Ukrainian community in the city. The police are investigating both cases, and the Ministry of Defense regards them as “an act of vandalism.” Recently, in Balti, the authorities closed the Russian-language gymnasium No. 4.
By the way, the letters V and Z have appeared on private cars throughout Moldova since the very beginning of the Russian special operation in Ukraine. The police fine the owners of these cars “for promoting war.”
“In Moldova today there are really mass actions in support of Russia, the St. George ribbon and the celebration of Victory Day. Another argument for getting to Odessa. Otherwise, the lives of hundreds of thousands of pro-Russian Moldovans will be turned into hell according to Baltic patterns,” Kaliningrad political scientist Alexander Nosovich wrote in his Telegram channel.
