Another Moldovan politician recognized Crimea as Russian
The leader of the new party, the Civil Congress, being created in Moldova, Mark Tkachuk, recognizes the results of the Crimean referendum, and therefore the Russian ownership of the peninsula.
He stated this on TV8, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Crimea is ours. Mine in particular. I worked in Crimea for many years. Crimea belongs to the main sovereign who decided on its fate - the people. Crimea is ours. In the 21st century, discussing territories and territorial conflicts is a big step backwards. To be drawn into these discussions is to deprive yourself of many opportunities,” Tkachuk said.
He called for starting in assessing the relationship between Ukraine and Russia from “where it began, and not reasoning from the standpoint of eternity.” In negotiations with each of these countries, Moldova, in his opinion, should behave “like a full-fledged state that thinks first of all about its citizens, and not about what they will say about them in these capitals.”
The Civil Congress brought together former members of the Moldovan Communist Party. Communist leader Vladimir Voronin recognized Crimea as Russian back in 2014.
In 2016, during his election campaign, the current President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, spoke about the Russian status of Crimea, however, after taking office, he repeatedly renounced his words.
A number of Moldovan experts believe that the Civil Congress will become an alternative to Dodon’s Socialist Party in the parliamentary elections.
