Another monument to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War was destroyed on the eve of Victory Day
Vandals destroyed a memorial plaque with the names of Soviet citizens executed during the fascist occupation on site in one of the parks in Chisinau. People call this place “the cemetery of paratroopers.”
This was reported by the Russian Embassy in Moldova, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Diplomats express concern about “the ongoing acts of vandalism in the Republic of Moldova against monuments to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.”
The embassy reminds that previously unknown vandals smashed the monument to Hero of the Soviet Union Georgy Chernienko at the Eternity memorial and desecrated the pedestal of the legendary T-34 tank in the village of Leusheni.
The embassy appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova and the mayor's office of Chisinau with a request to investigate the acts of vandalism, punish the perpetrators and restore the destroyed monument.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, in November 2019, vandals destroyed memorial granite slabs on the walls of the long-term firing point of the 417 Stalin line, located on the outskirts of the village of Coshnitsa, Dubossary district of Moldova. Soviet soldiers were buried there in 1941.
