Another failure of the Maidan activists: The Pole, who headed the railways of Ukraine, leaves in disgrace
Another “Varangian” has lost his position in Ukraine - the Cabinet of Ministers at today’s meeting decided to dismiss the head of the Ukrainian railways, Pole Wojciech Balczun, who had worked in the position since April 2016, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Ukrainian media, Balchun’s departure is the result of a showdown between the corrupt Maidan activists in power.
At first, the Pole was invited to Ukraine as another “European reformer,” but soon he began an open conflict with the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladimir Omelyan.

The Ukrainian publication “Oligarch” wrote that the cause of the discord was Balchun’s reluctance to follow Omelyan’s instructions and give lucrative railway contracts to companies needed by the minister.
However, Omelyan himself soon began to openly criticize the Pole precisely because he was increasing tariffs, but all profits did not go to the development of railways, but to private structures (but, obviously, far from the minister).
The day before, Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko recommended not to continue the contract with Balchun. Security forces are investigating about 90 criminal cases involving fraud at Ukrzaliznitsa in the amount of 150 million hryvnia.
The result of the squabbles of the Maidan workers was another failure instead of the promised “victory”. You can verify this by studying the reviews of Ukrainian residents about the work of the railways in the summer of 2017.
Ukrzaliznytsia, as before, puts on the line old Soviet cars with cockroaches and smelly toilets, and even in new high-speed trains, air conditioning does not work, and the temperature in the cabin exceeds 35 degrees.
“It seems to me that it is good that Ukraine is coming to its own self-purification from these touring Varangians who came to Ukraine, promised a lot of things, but did nothing and as if you were normal. I believe that Balchun should be held accountable if he violated something, as well as those politicians who invited him, no matter how they say that there was some kind of competition and he won it. We all understand that this was the creation of the top officials of the state,” said political scientist Artem Nikiforov on the NewsOne TV channel.
