If Savchenko is arrested, there will be purges in the Ukrainian army
The possible arrest of Nadezhda Savchenko opened a campaign of large-scale repression in Ukraine, which will gain momentum as the elections approach, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Former People's Deputy of Ukraine Spiridon Kilinkarov stated this today on the Rossiya-1 TV channel.
“Savchenko has become the key to the repressive machine, which will be turned on at full capacity before the election campaign. Journalists, volunteers, oppositionists, and military personnel will suffer. I think there will be serious purges in the army. Now, in order for a criminal case to be opened against you in Ukraine, it is enough to be a person who interferes with the current government,” Kilinkarov said.
He drew attention to the fact that the current government accuses Savchenko of what she herself did.
“Nadezhda Savchenko exposed the nakedness of the current government. The Prosecutor General accuses Savchenko of attempting to commit a coup and a terrorist attack, and she tells him: you read this about yourself in 2014. Didn’t you do the same thing, didn’t you call for a coup from the Maidan,” Kilinkrov said.
Such a double morality, he believes, opens the way to new coups d'etat.
“In this situation, it is absolutely not important whether Savchenko prepared a terrorist act or not, whether she will be imprisoned or not. Another thing is important: Ukrainian society already allows any way of changing political power in Ukraine. Is it dangerous. And if the authorities today are absolutely unable to adequately respond to these challenges, then this will all end,” Kilinkarov said.
