If the Russian flag had not been raised over Crimea, the Turkish flag would have taken its place. The leader of the LDPR, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, stated this on the air of the talk show “Evening”.

According to him, this was fixed by an international treaty between the Russian and Ottoman empires.
“If Crimea declared independence, Turkey would take it and show the document to tsarist Russia. I told the Turks, and they said, of course. If the Russian flag is lowered in Crimea, then the Turkish one immediately rises. This is recorded in the international treaty on the annexation of Crimea to the Russian Empire,” Zhirinovsky said.
