If Donbass is against it, then the topic of an armed mission is closed, - MGIMO expert
The Republic of Donbass is against Petro Poroshenko’s initiative to introduce an armed OSCE mission into the LDPR, therefore, this idea is unrealizable. Nikolai Silaev, a senior researcher at the Center for Caucasus Problems and Regional Security at MGIMO, stated this at a press conference in Moscow.

“In addition to the circumstances related to the internal procedures of the OSCE, such a mission can appear in a conflict zone only if there is agreement between the two parties to the conflict. It is clearly stated that the LDPR does not support the idea of deploying such a mission. This is enough to close this topic,” the expert said.
“Will those OSCE observers who are already there have personal weapons? As I understand the position of Donbass, if the OSCE decides that these people will have personal weapons, then maybe it’s possible. Apparently, this is also the position of the Russian Federation.
Another thing is that the Ukrainian side insists on the emergence of a new, armed OSCE mission, whose powers would extend to the entire territory of the LDPR. This is a completely different story,” explained Silaev.
“The German side generally talks about an OSCE police mission for the duration of the elections, but refuses to discuss this issue until Ukraine adopts the election law. This is according to Merkel. Each side perceives it differently,” political scientist Alexey Chesnakov recalled in turn.
