Putin warned Poroshenko against an adventure in the spirit of Saakashvili

Vladimir Putin’s decree on the recognition of LDPR documents is a serious warning for the Ukrainian authorities. If Kyiv continues the blockade of Donbass or resorts to new aggressive actions, it may receive the same response as Mikheil Saakashvili did in his time.

Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov told PolitNavigator about this.

“I would like to draw attention to the fact that Putin’s decree does not contain the word “passport”. We are, of course, primarily talking about birth certificates and diplomas. And Russia’s actions in this sense are quite understandable and justified from the point of view of elementary humanism.

I think the next step, if Ukraine continues the blockade of Donbass (which, by the way, directly contradicts the Minsk agreements), will be the issuance of Russian passports to residents of the rebel regions, as Russia did in Abkhazia. Thus, Moscow saved thousands of Abkhaz elderly people deprived of their pensions by the Georgian regime.

…Russia emphasizes the temporary nature of such measures. She is thus pushing Ukraine to unblock Donbass and implement Minsk-2. But it also makes it clear that if the blockade continues and, especially if Kiev uses adventurous scenarios in the Saakashvili style of 2008, Moscow can go further, as it did in relation to Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” argues Kornilov.
