If we blame the Muscovites and Poles, then we have no roots,” Kiev historian
If the Ukrainian people consider themselves great, then they should not abandon Soviet history.
This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by a famous Ukrainian scientist, director of the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician Pyotr Tolochko, who asked the question about the difference between a great state people and ordinary people.

“The state people take responsibility for all stages of their history, whatever it may be,” the academician points out the differences. “If the people don’t want to do this, if they say that this was not our history, that the damned Poles oppressed us, that we fell under the Muscovites, that the Patriotic War is not our war, but the war of Stalin and Hitler, then the people will not has its own roots. And the people themselves become tumbleweeds - wherever the wind blows, there it will roll.”
