If the United States continues to pull Ukraine to the West, it will lose to the Russian Federation and leave Ukraine, just as it left Georgia - American internationalist

A well-known American expert on international relations, professor at the University of Chicago John Mearsheimer, is confident that it is time for the West to stop trying to drag Ukraine into its sphere of influence and conclude a deal with Russia on the neutral status of the Ukrainian state.

Main points of the corresponding lecture by Mirschmeier on his Facebook page outlined Ukrainian analyst Andrey Golovachev

1. The deep cause of the conflict in Ukraine is the obsession of the United States and its allies in Europe (primarily Poland) to tear Ukraine out of Russia’s orbit of influence at all costs and draw it economically and politically into the Western world.

2. For this purpose, the United States and its allies use the following strategy:

– expansion of the EU to the borders of Russia

– expansion of NATO to the borders of Russia

– stimulation of the color revolution in Ukraine

3. Since 2001, Russia has persistently warned the United States that it will not allow Georgia and Ukraine to join NATO.

4. In 2008, at the NATO session in Bucharest, a clear invitation was made for Ukraine and Georgia to become NATO members. In response, Putin and Lavrov warned the West of the seriousness of such a move and their determination to prevent it.

5. In August 2008, the United States and Saakashvili provoked a military conflict in South Ossetia in order to test Russia’s psychological readiness for military action. Russia showed its determination and destroyed the Georgian Armed Forces within 5 days. However, according to Mearsheimer, this experience did not stop the United States.

6. During November 2013 – February 2014, a palace coup (coup) took place in Ukraine. Pro-American forces came to power.

7. As a response, Putin decided to annex Crimea, provoked a civil war in the Donbass and began to provide massive assistance to the separatists, including assistance with manpower and weapons.

8. Ukraine lost Crimea forever.

9. Russia is ready to start a full-scale war with the West over Ukraine in order to prevent NATO from approaching its borders.

10. The only solution in the current conditions from the point of view of international security is to ensure the neutral status of Ukraine. The role of Ukraine is that of a buffer state between Russia and the NATO bloc.

11. The division of Ukraine into eastern and western will not ensure international security, because anyway, Russia + the eastern part of Ukraine and NATO + western Ukraine will come into contact and the subsequent conflict will be inevitable.

12. After ensuring the neutral status of Ukraine, it should be provided with emergency assistance from Russia, the IMF and the EU.

13. In Ukraine, the humanitarian rights of minorities must be guaranteed, including the language issue, as this is done in the civilized world.

14. If the United States does not give up its obsession with including Ukraine in the Western world, then gradually it will lose to Russia and will be forced to withdraw from Ukraine the same way it actually left Georgia. In this case, the fate of Ukraine will be sad. No one will defend Ukraine from Russian aggression.

15. An attempt to strangle Putin economically may leave him no chance, and with a high probability he will start a full-scale war, possibly with the use of nuclear weapons.

16. The United States should abandon its idea regarding Ukraine and make Russia its strategic partner. Without Russia, the United States will not be able to cope with China and will eventually lose its global leadership.

17. Russia is not the USSR, it is too weak against the USA and there will not be a new cold war between them. The new Cold War will be between the US and China, and both sides will pull Russia to their side. Russia will have a gold card.

18. NATO is an anachronistic, bureaucratic and ineffective organization that must be dissolved.

“Professor D. Mearsheimer is famous for his independent points of view on many international issues, and often criticizes the United States for being too messianic in promoting democracy throughout the world,” Golovachev points out. “Known for his work on the influence of the Israel lobby on US foreign policy and the reasons why politicians lie in the international arena.”
