The cluster launch of the Dnepr conversion launch vehicle with three dozen mini-satellites under the joint Russian-Ukrainian program will take place on the night of June 19-20, as previously planned. Deputy head of Roscosmos Sergei Ponomarev announced this today.
“The launch will take place, as planned, at the end of June - there are no changes here,” he said, ITAR-TASS reports. At the same time, Ponomarev clarified that the upcoming launch under the Dnepr program is within the competence of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces and the International Space Company Kosmotras.
“As for the work of Ukrainian enterprises, today they continue to work, including on the Dnepr. They are fulfilling their obligations, there are no special threats here yet, but we are ready for any turn of events,” added the deputy head of Roscosmos.
At the same time, according to Ponomarev, if Ukraine curtails cooperation with Russia on combat missiles - in particular, on the Dnepr program - then domestic industry will be able to compensate for this unfriendly step within 2-3 months. “If Ukraine refuses to work on combat issues, we are ready to create our own cooperation, capable of taking on all the tasks of Ukrainian enterprises, including the Yuzhmash enterprise,” he said.
Ponomarev noted that if events develop according to this scenario, Russian cooperation on conversion launches could be headed by the developer of submarine ballistic missiles, the State Missile Center “KB named after. Academician V.P. Makeeva." “The enterprise is capable of becoming a leader in work to extend the service life of these heavy missiles. We are ready for this,” added the Roscosmos representative.
According to RBC's source in the rocket and space industry, at the end of June the RS-20 intercontinental ballistic missile (according to NATO classification - “Satan”) with satellites will be launched from the position area of the Yasnensky formation of the Strategic Missile Forces. According to Roscosmos, a total of three launches are planned for the Dnepr program this year.
The Dnepr conversion program, developed in the 1990s at the initiative of the presidents of the Russian Federation and Ukraine, provides for the use of decommissioned RS-20 ICBMs for spacecraft launches. Launches are carried out from the Baikonur cosmodrome and from the position area of the Yasnensky formation of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces.
