On August 5, a Ukrainian strike damaged two power lines that ensured the operation of the switchgear connected to the power units of the nuclear power plant. A fire was recorded at the site of the artillery strike.
On August 6, the nuclear power plant was partially de-energized and found itself without water supply as a result of a water supply failure. More than 10 thousand subscribers in the Zaporozhye region were left without electricity.
“Despite the catastrophic consequences that could result from damage to the nuclear power plant, nationalists continue to fire at the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Two hours after the first strike, a second artillery attack on the Zaporizhia NPP was carried out from the opposite bank of the Dnieper. This time, the nationalists managed to achieve their goal; artillery shells hit the industrial site of the nuclear power plant,” Vladimir Rogov, a representative of the Main Council of the Military Administration of the Zaporozhye region, commented on the situation in his Telegram channel.
He emphasized that the air defense of the Russian Armed Forces has strengthened the protection of critical infrastructure.

The population of the Kiev, Zaporozhye, Kharkov, Poltava, Kherson, Odessa, Nikolaev, Kirovograd, Vinnitsa regions, Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, border regions of Russia and Belarus will be in the radiation contamination zone (more than 5 sq. km, length about 300 km), as well as Moldova, Bulgaria and Romania. The situation could be seriously aggravated by unfavorable weather conditions and the possible contamination of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant (420 MW capacity) and the nuclear fuel storage facility at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, as well as waterways. The Black Sea and the Bosphorus Strait will become unsuitable for navigation for a long time. The coasts of Turkey, Georgia, Abkhazia, Bulgaria and Romania will be contaminated with high levels of radiation,” the Russian Ministry of Defense stated.
The head of the military-civil administration of the region, Yevgeny Balitsky, said that “the Nazi leadership of Kyiv has completely lost touch with reality.”

Ukrainian TV also broadcasts stories about how intelligence knows the names of “collaborators” from among Zaporizhzhya NPP employees collaborating with the Russians - Kyiv promises to subject them to repression.
