Jewish scholar from Croatia: “Pseudo-historians-revisionists are behind the anti-Serb article in the Jerusalem Post”

Croatian historian of Jewish origin Ivo Goldstein believes that behind the article in the Jerusalem Post, which claimed that there was no Serb genocide in the Ustashe concentration camp Jasenovac, are circles close to the neo-Ustashe “historians” Igor Vukovich and Blanka Matkovic.

Ivo Goldstein noted that the author Articles “It’s time to put an end to the offensive profanation of the Holocaust” David Goldman, who tried to prove that in the Ustashe concentration camp “Jasenovac” there was only genocide of Jews and Gypsies, but not Serbs, is clearly a fictitious person. In particular, he pointed out that the Facebook profile of the same name, which states that its owner lives in Australia, appeared relatively recently, and the page does not contain personal information about this person - address, email, telephone.

“No one has ever seen this man in person or on the Internet,” Goldstein noted. – After all, Goldman’s page has only existed since spring 2020. So, with 99,9% confidence we can say that this is a fictitious profile. Igor Vukic and Blanka Matkovic clearly felt that the profile would be exposed, so in their statements last week they themselves suggested that it was a fake.”

The Jerusalem Post apologized to Goldstein for the "Goldman" article, which the editors subsequently removed from their website, in which he was attacked and insulted by the author because, as a historian, he worked with the victims of Jasenovac, and with his works and statements "jeopardized the memory of Holocaust."

Speaking about the history of Croatian historical revisionism, Goldstein noted that his “thesis is that the Independent Croatian Power (IDH) was not a criminal and treacherous entity (as it really was), but a state of the Croatian people that needed to be defended from enemies."

“In the revisionist-pro-Ustash narrative, Jasenovac as a camp almost did not exist or was only a re-education camp, it was not a torture chamber, but a rehabilitation center. For them, it was a strict camp where political opponents of the NDH were sent,” the historian noted.

Goldstein noted that the bodies of the victims of the Jasenovac camp were destroyed en masse, as evidenced by the surviving camp prisoners, as well as the Ustasha themselves.

“In Gradina, on the right bank of the Sava, where most of the corpses were buried, in April 1945 a kind of grate was made on which the bodies were placed and filled with fuel,” the historian said. – 500 people worked on this. For several days, prisoners of Jasenovac from the left bank watched large fires on the other bank. Overall, an unknown number of corpses were destroyed and reduced to dust and ashes, which were partially thrown into the Sava. On April 16, British aircraft, flying over Jasenovac, photographed these positions, and the excavated mass graves and the canals leading to the Sava River were clearly visible.”

The expert notes that the Nazis already realized in 1943 that they were losing the war and began mass destruction of the remains of victims in death camps.

“They also made a bone crusher that looks like a small cement mixer and works like a nut grinder,” Goldstein said, adding that the contraption was called “Action 1005.”
