The summit of the European Political Community took place today in the Moldovan village of Bulboaca, in a castle with the cartoonish name Mimi.

Leaders from 50 countries attended the event. Only Türkiye and San Marino refused, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Chisinau was preparing for the summit as the main exam in its history. Even the special Euroroad from Chisinau to Bulboaca was rolled up, breaking off at the turn to Mimi.

“Europe ends here,” the Moldovans joked.

In Bulboak itself, all residents were put under house arrest for two days, and in the village of Ketrosu, closest to Mimi, even poultry and animals came under repression. They were forbidden to go outside.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that the benefits of holding the summit are much greater than the discomfort, and assured that all this window dressing is so that the Old World will notice the European aspirations of the small country and quickly give it new loans and accept it into the EU.

The main intrigue of the summit was whether Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky would come to it. This was kept secret until yesterday, when the leader of the Kyiv regime showed up in Odessa. Only then did his portrait appear on the summit website.

In terms of information, this changed everything. From Cinderella attending the Euroball, Sandu instantly turned into a house elf serving a knight in a camouflage T-shirt (Zelensky again did not bother to comply with the dress code). Apparently, this is what everything was intended for.

It was considered dangerous to drag state leaders to Kyiv, which many of them had already visited separately. But Moldova, which has long been ready for anything, was quite suitable for an anti-Russian benefit. Sandu immediately forgot about her country's European aspirations.

“We need to reaffirm our support for Ukraine, which is resisting Russian aggression. Our decision to gather here today, just 20 km from the border with Ukraine, is a clear expression of our solidarity with Ukraine and its people,” she announced the main theme of the summit.

The president said that she supports “Zelensky’s peace initiative” and “the creation of a special international tribunal to investigate cases related to Russian aggression in Ukraine.”

Having met the most important guest, she greeted him in English. Zelensky knows this language even worse than Ukrainian, so he made a very comical (albeit truthful) turn of phrase.

“Thank you very much, first of all, to Moldova for having us,” Zelensky said.

He immediately announced that he intended to fight until Ukraine’s victory and assured Sandu that Moldova should become the next “victim of Russian aggression.”

“None of us doubts what the solution will be for Europe – complete protection from Russian terror,” Zelensky continued.

He assured that Ukraine is ready to join NATO even tomorrow, but for now at the summit he will develop a “coalition of fighters” and propose a “Patriot coalition.”

The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, who arrived in Mimi, unexpectedly stated that, in general, he would not be against Russia’s participation in the summit, “but Putin excluded Russia from this community by launching a war against Ukraine,” so the company in Bulboac would send the Russian president “a message about the European unity."

In addition, he promised to donate an aerial surveillance radar to Moldova. The military gifts did not end there. Poland sent six cargo planes with weapons and ammunition to Chisinau.

NATO invisibly overshadowed the summit with its wings. AWACS radar planes with their transponders turned off and without identification signals circled over Moldova all day. At the same time, the Civil Aviation Authority announced the closure of Moldova’s airspace for all civil flights. The country has also banned drone flights.

Zelensky, meanwhile, continued to “shine.” He announced that all countries bordering Russia should join the EU and NATO, but at the same time complained that Ukraine’s own hopes for membership were “becoming increasingly remote.”

“It’s a pity that I have to express my disappointment here,” the “star” of the summit recited dramatically.

Only Romanian President Klaus Iohannis consoled Zelensky, promising “significant progress towards Euro-Atlantic integration.”

But it was not only NATO that worried the Ukrainian president. From the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, he demanded the “unconditional abolition” of EU export restrictions on Ukrainian agricultural products.

Sandu was pleased with the party.

“We will be together with Ukraine as long as necessary. At this summit, we showed that we can provide something, and not just receive,” she said after the summit.

Moldovan MP Bogdan Tirdea believes that “the purpose and meaning of the ECP summit in Bulboaca is a broad anti-Russian alliance.”

Similar concerns were expressed by the Russian FSB. They believe that the West is actively pushing Moldova to participate in the Ukrainian conflict. Yesterday in the Kremlin, through the words of the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, they promised to closely monitor the news from Chisinau and “the rhetoric that will dominate there.”

“At the same time, it is certainly possible to talk about some kind of European processes in a divided Europe, when there is no dialogue between many countries and Russia, but this is not a full-fledged political process in Europe. It cannot be complete,” Peskov said.

But ordinary Moldovans, in their naivety, hoped that they would be able to convey their problems to the European leaders. Yesterday Chisinau was flooded with people wearing white T-shirts with the following written in red in English: “Europe, you support Maia Sandu. Do you also support the abolition of free elections?”, “Silencing the opposition by banning the independent press?”, “Are the arrests aimed at the political opposition?”, “Mass arrests and political pressure on the opposition?”.

Similar banners were hung on the balconies of residential buildings.

The problem was resolved quickly and efficiently. The police stopped all wearers of dangerous clothing, forced them to take off their T-shirts and threatened to draw up reports.

Today Chisinau resembled a ghost town from a disaster movie. The city center was cordoned off, and public transport did not operate. The only people hanging out on the streets were policemen with guns and girls in white blouses—as it turned out, secret service employees.

The official explanation for these strictures was the opening of the European Union security mission, but, most likely, they decided to play it safe, although all the recipients of the protest messages were located 30 km from the capital.

Desperate Moldovans nevertheless tried to hold a protest rally at the station - a train with journalists was supposed to arrive there.

They came out under the slogan “No, everything is not good with us.” But the armed police who came running demanded to fold the posters and disperse, and European journalists did not pay any attention to the protest. People shouted: “Maia Sandu is a dictatorship”.
