The European Association will lead Ukraine to the Russian food blockade starting in the new year
Russia may introduce a food embargo against Ukraine from January 1, 2016, if Moscow fails to agree with its partners on an annex to the Ukraine-EU free trade agreement (FTA), which “removes the risks of the Russian side.”

This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Alexey Ulyukaev, RIA Novosti reports.
“A legally binding agreement must be adopted by the three parties, either as some kind of annex to the agreement on the Ukraine-EU free trade zone, or as a separate document, which would spell out the legally binding removal of our risks associated with technical regulation, veterinary and phytosanitary control, with customs regulation, with the danger of an uncontrolled influx of goods from third countries through Ukraine to us,” he said.
Alexey Ulyukaev noted that Russia has repeatedly stated this to the Ukrainian side.
“If it is not possible to reach an agreement, a corresponding decree of the Russian government will come into force on January 1, which will introduce a normal trade regime in relation to Ukraine and a food embargo regime. There are estimates of its impact on the Russian economy – it will not have any fundamental impact,” he noted.
