MEP: The European Union betrayed France
The European Union should stop its insane policy aimed at breaking off relations with Russia.
This was reported by PolitNavigator correspondent and Member of the European Parliament from France Thierry Mariani.
“The US has more than doubled LNG exports to Europe, but at a price that has caused outrage in the European Union. Despite visits and criticism from French President Emmanuel Macron and our Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire, nothing has changed in this situation.
The EU must come to its senses: reconsider its vision of the energy balance and stop the insane policy of partially severing ties with Russia in this area that is most important for our industry and our families,” the politician said in an interview with Izvestia.
In addition, he touched on the topic of Africa.
“France is losing ground in Africa. Unfortunately, political leadership and strategy did not match the contributions of our military. The EU has stabbed France in the back by refusing to share any of our efforts in the region.
And Macron bears enormous political responsibility for this fiasco: he failed to set specific and realistic goals for our diplomats. He put everything on the European Union, which betrayed him, and at the same time continues to support the gradual reduction of the French presence on the continent, which is crucial for our future,” the MEP emphasized.
He criticizes Paris' dependence on Brussels.
“Unfortunately, as a prisoner of the European Union, France looks only to the East of Europe, while our greatest opportunities and greatest dangers come from the Mediterranean basin, the Middle East and Africa,” Mariani concluded.
