MEPs threaten Russia with new sanctions for the crisis in the gas market
A number of European deputies are demanding the introduction of new sanctions against Russia, including fines against Gazprom.
The correspondent of PolitNavigator reports that Member of the European Parliament Gunnar Beck told Izvestia about this.
According to him, some representatives of the “green” and liberal forces in the EU are shifting responsibility onto the Russian Federation for the unprecedented energy crisis that Europe faced on the eve of the heating season.
“There are many MEPs who blame Russia for everything. However, the gas crisis in Europe was caused by other reasons. For many years, the EU has pursued a policy of abandoning long-term contracts and switching to spot trading of energy resources. This played a cruel joke,” the politician said.
He added that Russia has always been an exemplary trading partner.
“The fact that many members of the European Parliament refuse to acknowledge this fact is only a reflection of their own ideological biases and blind trust in green energy,” the MEP believes.
“But the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which could solve the problem, despite the fact that it has been completed, has not yet been put into operation. The reasons for this are opposition to the project from France and other EU member countries, partly due to US pressure,” says Beck.
Bundestag member Steffen Kotre shares a similar opinion.
“In fact, the commissioning of Nord Stream 2 is an extremely important aspect in resolving the energy crisis. This way the EU and Germany can return to a rational energy policy, in which natural gas, of course, has an important role to play. “Green policies have failed,” says Cotret.
