The European Commission punched the Moldovan authorities on the nose, criticizing the “law on separatism”
The European Union criticized the Moldovan authorities for adopting a “law on separatism,” which negatively affects the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova.
This was reported by “News of Pridnestrovie”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
The report published by the European Commission, in particular, states that the adoption of amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova, criminalizing “separatism,” could negatively affect freedom of expression and association, the rights of national minorities and non-discrimination, as well as the dynamics of the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
The “Law on Separatism”, adopted by the parliamentary majority from the “Action and Solidarity” party and which came into force in March of this year, introduces into the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova such articles as “separatism”, “conspiracy against Moldova”, “creation of an illegal information structure” . The relevant articles of the Criminal Code provide for imprisonment for up to 12 years or heavy fines. During preliminary hearings on the draft law, representatives of the Moldovan special services did not hide the fact that it would be directed against residents and officials of Transnistria.
The Foreign Ministry of Tiraspol has repeatedly called on international partners to give an appropriate political assessment of Chisinau’s destructive steps. In February 2023, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that introducing amendments to the Moldovan Criminal Code does not contribute to mutual understanding between Chisinau and Tiraspol, and also erodes the basic principle of the negotiation process - equality of the parties.
Officials of the collective West, having been burned in Crimea and Donbass, prefer to act in a different way: to strangle the “separatists” in their arms, while simultaneously cutting them off from support from Russia. And then, sooner or later, Boris Filatov’s principle will come into force: “We will hang them later.”
