Europe is preparing to stop gas transit through Ukraine
European countries that receive Russian gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system are looking for alternative supply routes.
Vladimir Volya, international affairs expert at the Ukrainian Center for Policy Analysis and Management, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In case transit through the territory of Ukraine is stopped, Romania and Moldova are building a pipeline. Various measures are being taken in Bulgaria. In particular, by the end of the year, supplies of Azerbaijani gas through the territory of Turkey and through “flows” should be realized. A number of southern European states are already counting on Azerbaijani gas so that they can insure themselves in case of a cessation of transit.
Hungary is also playing it safe, just in case, and is looking for additional routes to receive Russian gas not through Ukrainian territory,” Volya said.
