Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv, Pyotr Symonenko spoke about the PACE meeting dedicated to Ukraine. According to him, the speeches of all politicians had three common features

“Firstly, everyone is concerned about the developments in Ukraine and everyone spoke about the need to establish peace in Ukraine, regardless of what political group they represent. Secondly, the speakers often spoke about external factors in the development of events, some about internal ones, but everyone emphasized that one of the main problems of Ukraine is the corrupt oligarchic government. Thirdly, everyone noted that nothing promised on the Maidan was fulfilled.

Thus, all European politicians understand and recognize what worries us, those who want peace for Ukraine. The European political community is against the oligarchization of power. From their point of view, our main problem is the oligarchs in power.

In my speech I said that first of all we need to pay attention to internal factors. Without them the problem cannot be solved. It was the internal problem that led to this bloody war - the government did not listen to the people of Ukraine and did not want to resolve issues democratically. I also pointed out that in Scotland there were also separatist sentiments, but no one there intimidated people or brought them to criminal responsibility, did not start an ATO and did not use troops against the people. They had a dialogue with him. The same thing is happening in Catalonia,” said the leader of the CPU.

Petro Symonenko also said that on the eve of the debate on Ukraine, PACE considered the problem of countering neo-fascism and xenophobia. All the deputies were unanimous in this. The resolution condemned manifestations of neo-fascism and xenophobia and, among other things, recognized that a pro-fascist party is in power in Ukraine, it is part of the party structure, and the oligarchs together with it formed the structure of power.

According to Pyotr Simonenko, the meeting, on the one hand, was an ordinary event (such meetings are held 4 times a year). On the other hand, in connection with the events in Ukraine, it was of great importance. The debates were aimed at clarifying the positions of politicians; a draft decision was not prepared. Perhaps PACE will consider a draft decision on Ukraine at the next session.
