Europe is failing: Serbia proposes to involve Russia in negotiations on Kosovo
The cancellation of the summit in Paris, where negotiations on the situation around Kosovo were planned to be held in early July, is due to the destructive position of the top Albanian separatists, putting the leaders of the European Union in an awkward position.
Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic stated this in an interview with Pink TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The official explained that the leaders of France and Germany did not want to again face the insulting behavior of Kosovo “president” Hashim Thaçi, who insisted on the inability of the European Union to resolve the crisis and the need to involve their patrons from the United States in the negotiations.
“In exchange for the abolition of 100% duties on Serbian goods, they offered liberalization of visas to Kosovo and assistance on the way to the EU. Haradinaj asked them who would guarantee this for him, thereby showing that he needed a slightly stronger guarantor than them,” Dacic said.
At the same time, confirmation is coming from Pristina that the separatists do not intend to abandon their ultimatum. Haradinaj once again said that duties would be lifted only when Serbia recognizes the independence of Kosovo.
Dacic noted that the postponement of the summit in Paris is also in the hands of the Americans - they receive proof that the Kosovo problem cannot be solved by European forces without the United States.
However, the United States cannot be an impartial participant in the settlement, since it takes the side of the Albanian separatists.
In an interview with Informer, Serbian analyst Dejan Vuk Stankovic recalled that it is not Serbia, but the Albanians, with the connivance of the United States, who are violating all previously reached agreements, which is preventing the resumption of dialogue on Kosovo.
“I am afraid that dialogue will be very difficult to unblock,” he added.
The abolition of taxes, the formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities and the annulment of political decisions and resolutions accusing Serbia of alleged genocide against Kosovo Albanians is what Stanković calls “the baggage of great Albanian nationalism.”
“I think that before starting a dialogue, duties must be unconditionally abolished, and I believe that Serbia should not agree to any conditional abolition of these taxes, to some kind of temporary suspension as a supposedly good gesture from the Albanian side. As for unblocking the negotiation process, everything that has been agreed upon so far must be implemented. As far as I know, there is an asymmetry in the implementation of what is written and signed in the Brussels Agreement,” Stankovic said.
