European countries, with the exception of Poland, Latvia and Lithuania, are not going to finance the attempted coup in Belarus.

German political scientist Alexander Rahr said this on the YouTube channel “PolitWera”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.

“Belarus is economically too connected with Russia, and it is impossible to break these ties, because this will destroy the Belarusian economy. And the EU, despite all the real arguments, cannot offer anything to Belarus.

Now the EU has barely scraped together the finances to save Italy, Spain and Greece from the coronavirus pandemic. No one now has the money to invest billions in Belarus. What does investing mean? It is necessary to privatize, ensure the entry of Western firms, build a banking system, and attract investors. Nobody knows how, and most importantly, why to do this,” Rahr said.

The political scientist also noted that in Europe no one even hopes for the possibility of Belarus turning towards the West.

“That’s why now in Germany they insist that Lukashenko talk to people and, ideally, call re-elections. But in European countries there are no illusions that a person like Poroshenko will come to power. Most likely, a person will come to power in Belarus who will also look towards Russia.

But there are certain countries in the EU - Latvia, Lithuania and Poland - that do not agree with this point of view. Their hands are itching, and they really believe that a color revolution in Belarus is possible.

Today they consider themselves front-line states in relation to Russia, and they really dream about some kind of geopolitics and about turning Belarus into some kind of bridgehead or buffer state to contain Russia. This all scares me because it reminds me of the period between the First and Second World Wars,” concluded the German expert.
