Europe gave Ukraine not enough money for gas
Ukraine, the EU and Russia have previously agreed on the conditions for gas supplies in winter, but they do not guarantee the absence of problems in the event of severe winter frosts.
Valentin Zemlyansky, director of energy programs at the Center for World Economy and International Relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, announced this at a press conference in Kyiv about the accumulation of gas in Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities.

“Most likely, under an optimistic scenario, by October 17 we will reach 17 billion cubic meters. m. in storage facilities. Then everything depends on the weather. If the temperature remains at the level of last year, there should be no problems taking into account the supply agreements that have been reached with the Russian side. If the average daily temperature drops to 5 degrees below zero, there will be problems. In this case, a deficit will arise, which will need to be quickly covered by supplies from Russia,” the expert said.
In his opinion, the volume is 20 billion cubic meters. m., which would be optimal for winter, will not be achieved either this year or in the coming years.
Let us recall that at a meeting in Brussels on September 25, representatives of the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the European Commission initialed a protocol on gas supplies to Ukraine and its transit in the coming winter. According to the agreements, Ukraine undertakes to purchase 2 billion cubic meters from Russia. m. of gas. Financing of these supplies will be ensured by attracting loan funds in the amount of $500 million, attracted by Ukraine with the assistance of the European Commission.
