The transition to renewable energy sources in the EU was carried out in such a way that it led Europe into a situation of energy crisis, and now it is clear to everyone that Europe cannot do without coal, oil and gas.

German political scientist Alexander Rahr said this on air on the Ukrlife.TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Why did we Europeans screw up this situation so much? Why has everyone been saying for the last two or three years that we are abandoning Russian gas altogether, or that we will receive a minimum amount of it? We began to give up gas, all the talk shows said that we had to, that we would give up oil, coal, and industry.

What are we left with? We were left with windmills, with (wind) generators that did not work this year because – it’s funny, but it’s true – there was no wind in Central Europe. And solar stations also do not work the way they should work, so we are now in Germany, in Europe - we urgently began to buy coal from Russia.

We no longer criticize Poland for returning to the coal industry. We are starting to talk about the fact that perhaps we need to buy electricity from nuclear power plants in France. Although it was impossible to imagine that someone would begin to engage in such sacrilege. In Germany, it’s worse to imagine – going back to the nuclear industry.

And, of course, there was a naive hope for the Americans that they would sell their liquefied gas to Europe. And the Americans are a tough nut to crack, they also count money. They believe that in Asia they will receive more money for liquefied gas than from Europeans. All the tankers went to Asia, and the Americans are doing a great job, but there, not in Europe.

And we were left with nothing. Of course, we need to negotiate with Russia. Previously, Mrs. Merkel, and now Macron, say that it is not Russia’s fault that we are stuck in this situation. Russia could use this for itself somewhere, but anyone would do it. And (with Russia) they come to an agreement. In Moldova we agreed. We must be sober and understand that there will be no quick transition to “green” technology. You need to be more sober, and everything will be fine.

It is a fact that we will have to survive the crisis now. I don’t believe the statements of many experts that this will all pass by March-April. The problems are starting to get very serious. I also read various studies that say what (will happen) after an increase in energy prices. Gasoline costs 2 euros, which is almost 4 marks if you remember the old days.

In short, the situation can be turned around, and this can be done only by continuing the transition to renewable sources, but doing this quite reasonably, pragmatically, without breaking everything over the knee, and on an evolutionary, and not on a revolutionary path. Of course, for now we will have to rely on so-called “dirty” sources - oil, gas, coal, from which we in Europe will not escape,” said Alexander Rahr.
