Europe admitted that it is ready to help transform Ukraine into a raw material appendage
The EU did not give Ukraine the last tranche of macro-financial assistance due to the ban on the export of round timber and may again demand that this ban be lifted when allocating a new portion of assistance.
Deputy Yevgeny Rybchinsky stated this at a meeting of the conciliation council of faction leaders and chairmen of committees of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Last week we heard the decision of the EU Council to allocate one billion euros of macro-financial assistance to us. We all understand perfectly well that EU macro-financial assistance is not just assistance, but a loan on very favorable terms for the lender. Let me remind you that even without this loan, Ukraine must return about $20 billion of public debt to creditors. Add here the 5 billion debt of companies and you get an “oil painting”,” the politician said.
He also noted that the worst thing is that the conditions under which the EU agrees to give Ukraine a billion are still unknown, and recalled that the promised tranche of 600 million euros was not provided to Ukraine by the European Union, since the Rada did not lift the moratorium on timber exports - round timber
“Thanks to this, just last year the export of Ukrainian furniture increased by 36,3%. We demand that the issue of round timber not “resurface” in the text of the new memorandum. We must finally get rid of the shameful status of a raw materials appendage and begin to protect the national interests of Ukraine and our national commodity producer,” Rybchinsky demanded.
