Europe lost the war, unlike the USSR, and therefore does not celebrate May 9
Unlike the USSR, Europe lost the war, and therefore has nothing to celebrate on May 9th.
A famous Ukrainian historian, director of the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician Pyotr Tolochko stated this at a press conference in Kiev, answering the question whether there is a need today to rethink our attitude towards victory in the Great Patriotic War and recognize this date as a day of reconciliation.

“Let Europe change its attitude; it has suffered defeat,” the academician emphasized. – All of Europe was defeated: our brothers the Bulgarians, the Romanians, the Hungarians, and everyone who marched against the Soviet Union. Let them think. They don’t come to celebrate – and God bless them. They have nothing to celebrate. But we should be proud of this great victory.”
