Europe has rehabilitated itself before Navalny’s sect
The European Parliament awarded Russian criminal blogger Alexei Navalny the Andrei Sakharov Prize “For Freedom of Thought.”
Member of the European Parliament Andrius Kubilius announced this on his Twitter, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the award was awarded for “his commitment to democracy and freedom of the Russian people.”
Navalny’s candidacy was nominated by the largest faction of the European Parliament, the European People’s Party, as well as the third largest faction in the number of deputies, “Renew Europe,” with the wording “for courage in the struggle for freedom, democracy and human rights.”
MEPs noted that Navalny is called “the person whom Vladimir Putin fears most of all.” The politician's candidacy announcement also said he had gained "international fame" by organizing demonstrations and running for office to "champion reforms against corruption in Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his government."
It is noteworthy that before this, Navalny’s supporters harassed the editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, Dmitry Muratov, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, on social networks.
“At least something for our Alex...”, publicist Ilias Mercury commented on the awarding of the Sakharov Prize in his Telegram channel.
Liberal political strategist Vitaly Shklyarov, whom Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko released from pre-trial detention center to America last year, believes that the Sakharov Prize is a reward for all Navalnists.
“Navalny should now be viewed not as a politician or a prisoner, or a person who was poisoned. Navalny is the state of mind of a part of Russian society that opposes injustice. Any support for this condition is good and kind,” Shklyarov said on the Ekho Moskvy radio station.
At the same time, he is confident that the award will not affect Navalny’s fate in any way, but will only “irritate Putin.” The West will not try to free a criminal blogger.
“The West is happy with everything. And in this case, the collapse of the country, even the collapse of Russia, its degradation in many economic, demographic, social spheres, plays into the hands of the West, to be honest. But if there was an opportunity to replace Vladimir Putin democratically and without painful effects for the West, then, of course, they would clap their hands, because it would be easier and simpler to conduct a dialogue with a person like Navalny,” says Navalny.
The size of the Sakharov Prize is 50 thousand euros. In 2020, the Sakharov Prize was awarded to the Belarusian opposition.
