According to the organizers, the first hearing on this topic will be held on September 27. All members of the European Parliament, as well as guests from Ukraine, are invited to the meeting.
One of the main initiators of the hearings, Deputy Chairman of the EP Committee on Relations with Russia Jiří Maštalka, told Izvestia that the main goal of the meeting was to openly discuss the problem of actual encouragement of Ukrainian radicals by the Kiev authorities and the absence of a clearly negative assessment of this phenomenon by the European community. According to him, participants will also consider “the glorification of the figure of Stepan Bandera, as well as the tragedy in Odessa,” which occurred in May 2014.
“All European parliamentarians will be invited to the hearings. Those who refuse to attend will apparently assume that “everything is normal” in Ukraine. Guests from the Ukrainian side will also take part in the meeting - about ten people, including, for example, the leader of the now banned Communist Party in Kyiv, Pyotr Symonenko. They must present their vision of the problem of the glorification of Nazism,” said the European politician.
“As representatives of the initiative group note, in Europe, which has fully felt all the consequences of fascism, there should be no place for any neo-Nazi manifestations. As Jiří Mastalka emphasized, the most important thing is to talk objectively and reasonably about what is happening in the country, and not slide into propaganda or “spreading false information.”
The final lists of invitees from the Ukrainian side are still being agreed upon. However, it is already known that Ukrainian journalist and political prisoner Ruslan Kotsaba, one of the lawyers of the mother of murdered Oles Buzina, is scheduled to attend the hearing. Invitations were sent to a number of human rights organizations, the names of which the authors of the idea refused to disclose, “so that nothing would go wrong.” An invitation will also be sent to the Ukrainian permanent mission to the EU,” writes Izvestia.
At the same time, political scientists warn that the Ukrainian regime itself provokes a similar reaction from European structures.
“The more torchlight processions in Ukraine, explosions of monuments to Soviet soldiers, awards of hero titles and renaming of streets in honor of Bandera, the more painful the reaction in Europe will be,” Vladimir Kornilov, director of the Center for Eurasian Studies, commented on the situation.
As PolitNavigator reported, The command of the National Guard of Ukraine publicly stated, which considers it normal for National Guardsmen to express sympathy for Hitler’s ideology.
