Europe will have to choose between two terrible evils due to reluctance to launch SP-2 - expert
The European Union will be forced to “invent” another epidemic in the coming winter and declare a lockdown due to the energy crisis into which the EU has driven itself by blocking the commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Member of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy Alexander Losev said this today on the Vesti FM radio station, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“To survive this winter, there is only one option for them - to introduce a lockdown again. Because they are faced with a dilemma: either we warm the population, they are voters, or we support European industry.
What will they come up with: will they launch a new virus from American laboratories in Ukraine or will they simply purchase a million defective PCR tests that will show the growth of the coronavirus? But the dilemma they face is very serious,” Losev said.
According to him, Europe annually consumes 430 billion cubic meters of gas, of which a third is imported from Russia. In the next five-year period, the EU will need to import 550 billion cubic meters, as energy consumption is growing (the digital economy has turned out to be very energy-intensive).
“There are practically no options for Germany, for example. For that fought for it and ran. Nord Stream was blocked - Gazprom now cannot physically increase it. It has already supplied 145,8 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe – the maximum. They won’t be able to do anything about it now,” Losev concluded.
