Europeans will teach Ukrainians to clean up their waste
The European Union is starting a project in Ukraine called “Ukrainian Civil Society for European Waste Management.” The project will help the government introduce a waste management system in line with EU practices, introduce alternatives for waste disposal, and will also promote Ukraine's ratification of the Minamata Convention on Mercury.

About it Radio Liberty reports.
The budget of such an EU project is 493 thousand euros.
The goal of this project is to unite all efforts and make the reform real, since the problem is huge. In particular, in Ukraine now 94,4% of solid household waste is transported to more than six thousand landfills, occupying more than nine thousand hectares of land. These are technologies of the 60-70s of the last century at a time when there are wonderful European practices when 99% of waste can be composted, recycled, or burned. Hazardous waste management is also a concern.
According to official data, as of January 2015, there were 12 million tons of such waste in Ukraine.
Let us remind you that at the end of May a fire broke out at the Gribovitskaya landfill near Lviv. After the fire extinguishing was completed, during the collection of fire-fighting equipment, a shift of debris occurred, under which three rescuers and an ecologist from the Lviv municipal enterprise “Zbiranka” were caught. On May 31, three rescuers were found dead. The utility worker's body was never found.
