The European Union “threw” Ukraine in yet another industry
The European Union “threw” Ukraine in the energy field, obliging it to guarantee the transit of Russian gas to the West, but without giving any guarantees on its part. Ukrainian energy expert Dmitry Marunich stated this on air at UkrLife.

According to him, Ukraine, when signing the Association Agreement with the European Union, was unable to ensure that the EU’s obligations were clearly spelled out in the document, and now Kyiv is forced to ask Europe for “protection from the Russians.”
“All directives of our delegations begin with the clause: “We ask Europe to protect us from the Russians.” This is the first place we are going strategically. Plus, we raised tariffs as part of this story, because we expect that everything will work according to the market, they will give us a lot of money and billions of investments. There are no investments yet. They didn’t even give money for the repair of the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod gas section, although they promised it from the time of Azarov, and we largely fulfilled the requirements. But they didn’t give it. It’s hard to say why they didn’t give it. Maybe because they think it won’t be useful...
This whole thing was spelled out in the Association Agreement. I think it needed to be adjusted. Well, for example, in the same Agreement two norms were spelled out - if Europe wants to start pumping gas through us, it must consult with us. Well, OK, there were probably consultations. But there is no mandatory requirement. And we have already felt it all on our own skin. At the same time, there is an article that obliges us to provide transit,” Marunich said.
Earlier, representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture said that a free trade zone with the “rich multimillion-dollar market of the European Union,” one of the main promises of Euromaidan, turned out to be a fiction - Ukraine will already exhaust annual quotas for the supply of a number of goods to the EU in January.
