The European Union is in no hurry to introduce new sanctions against the Russian Federation, limiting itself to measures against the leaders of Donbass
Moscow - Kyiv, November 14 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - According to sources in the EU structures, Europeans, despite US pressure, are so far only inclined to announce the expansion of blacklists to include figures from the DPR and LPR, writes “Kommersant”. The European Union is in no hurry to expand sanctions against Russia, awaiting evidence of its military presence in Donbass.

On the eve of the meeting of EU foreign ministers scheduled for November 17, a closed meeting of European and American diplomats was held in Brussels yesterday. Its key topic was the possible tightening of sanctions against Russia and the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass. The day before, Washington made it clear that there was a reason to introduce new restrictive measures.
In Brussels, as follows from yesterday’s comment by EU Foreign Ministry representative Maja Kocijancic, they are ready for such a scenario. However, she did not answer the question about the possible parameters of new sanctions.
Meanwhile, earlier German Chancellor Angela Merkel assured that there was no talk of new economic sanctions against the Russian Federation. Bloomberg reported the same thing yesterday, citing a letter from the new head of the European Foreign Ministry, Federica Mogherini, to the foreign ministers of the EU countries. The letter says that the decision on new restrictions on sectors of the Russian economy should be made by the heads of state and government of the EU.
In the meantime, Mogherini proposed thinking about expanding the list of persons who are prohibited from entering the EU and whose accounts are subject to freezing, by including a larger number of DPR and LPR figures.
According to Kommersant’s interlocutor in Brussels, there is no consensus among European diplomats as to whether Russian citizens should be included in the new blacklists. “Everything will be decided on Monday,” explained another source of the publication.
Russia, we recall, denies its military presence in Donbass.
