The European Union is caught in a fork due to new US sanctions
The European Union has found itself caught up in its own economic interests and political preferences due to the adoption of a new package of anti-Russian sanctions in the United States. Political scientist Oleg Bondarenko told PolitNavigator about this.

“Europe is not interested in buying American liquefied gas due to its high cost and difficulty of delivery. It is much easier, cheaper and more profitable for her to buy Russian gas. Europe understands this very well, but it is politically dependent on the United States. We will see whether the pro-American political lobby will be able to push through a decision that directly contradicts the economic interests of Europeans,” Bondarenko said.
The day before, US President Donald Trump signed a new package of anti-Russian sanctions. The law, in particular, assumes that the head of state will be able to impose sanctions on individuals who invest more than $5 million per year or $1 million at a time in the construction of Russian export pipelines.
In addition, sanctions could be imposed for the provision of services, technologies, and information support during the construction and modernization of Russian export pipelines, including existing ones. The law specifically states that the United States will continue to oppose the Nord Stream 2 project.
