The European Union has decided to follow the path of the dying Baltic states
Three factors influenced the relatively painless passage of the heating season by the European Union.
Energy expert Boris Martsinkevich stated this in an interview with the Belarusian news agency BelTA, a PolitNavigator2 correspondent reports.
“The warmest winter in the last 40 years of observation. Filled underground storage facilities, provided that the main volume was pumped in late summer and early autumn, when prices sometimes exceeded 3 thousand dollars per thousand cubic meters. And of course – a reduction in consumption. The official results have not yet been summed up. But preliminary this is 70 billion cubic meters less than in the previous year. This is called deindustrialization,” said Martsinkevich.
According to him, last year in Europe there was the maximum number of bankruptcies since 2015.
“So let’s say, the Baltic version. The Soviet Baltic states consumed 2,5 times more Russian gas than the Baltic states, regardless of common sense. If we use the terminology adopted in the EU, dependence on Russian authoritarian, anti-democratic totalitarian gas has decreased by 2,5 times.
It didn't take much. Kill large industry, large agriculture, significantly reduce transit costs, that is, the entire industry that ensured trade between Russia and the EU through the Baltic ports, and disperse a third of the population. The result is not bad. If the European Commission believes that this experiment needs to be extended across 24 EU countries, then they are on the right track,” said Martsinkevich.
