Collapse and disintegration are predicted for the European Union
The global crisis and the coronavirus pandemic may lead to the fact that the supranational structures regulating the life of the EU will cease to exist.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko said this on the YouTube channel “PolitWera”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“We can assume that this entire global system [of the EU] will gradually begin to reform towards a non-supranational body that will manage everyone. Because the European Commissioners tortured even citizens of EU countries, and towards a union of sovereign states, as Mikhail Gorbachev and his company tried to organize in the Soviet Union - the share of countries’ sovereignty would increase, but at the same time they would, in some kind of common EU, implement common interests, as it was at the dawn of the EU,” Ishchenko noted.
He emphasized that the coronavirus pandemic and the crisis caused by it could lead to the EU completely collapsing, and then European countries will face their “roaring nineties.”
“But we don’t know how deep the epidemic will go, which is driving the crisis within the EU. And there may come a time when the EU actually begins to fall apart.
And if it starts to fall apart, it will only get worse. It will be exactly the same as the Soviet Union was falling apart, when everyone who was included in it said: “We will fall apart now, and we will get better.” Then it turned out that everything got worse – both the center and the regions,” the expert concluded.
