Eurovision has again become a victim of politics – this time internal to Ukraine

The team that began working on organizing the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 was forced to leave the project due to the decision of the political elites. Denis Bloshchinsky, one of the ex-organizers of the Eurovision 2017 contest, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“New management has come in. There are two levels of the problem - internal organizational nuances and external factors. In Eurovision it is very significant. Eurovision itself is often considered a political competition, and in our country the political competition takes on even more nuances. We must understand that the head of our organizing committee is a minister, and that for the project to pass, the approval of more than 10 ministries, many regulations, acts of the Cabinet of Ministers, etc. is needed. There is a political plane where you need to act, walk between the raindrops,” he said.

“Certain political elites have a sense of what is happening. And depending on it, they react to what happens in such large projects. This is such a tradition, our Ukrainian paradigm. And somehow they felt that they needed to change the leadership, bring in a new person. And in mid-December Pavel Gritsak appeared with his team. And the discussion about how certain things should be done turned into a clinch. And it was very easy to make an either/or decision.”
