“Sunday's vote in Ukraine was a depressing return to old ways of doing things. There was fraud, crime, dodgy candidates, violence, widespread voter apathy and “buckwheat handouts”, and one election even had to be cancelled...,” the publication says.
Despite the use of administrative resources, Poroshenko was not successful. An example is given in Kharkov, where the new Revival party, secretly financed by Kolomoisky and positioning itself as moderately pro-Russian, received 40% of the votes, and the Poroshenko bloc only 8%.
Oligarch Igor Kolomoisky traditionally puts his eggs in different baskets, the authors of the material note.
“Along with the pro-Russian Revival party, Kolomoisky introduced Ukrainians to UKROP, a new party that advocates a militaristic solution in the Donbass, with a strongly anti-Russian orientation,” the publication writes.
The authors summarize: Poroshenko “faltered”, but held on.
The most important result of these local elections may be a change in the government of Ukraine, since the absolutely unpopular Prime Minister Yatsenyuk and his party have lost all local support.
