FAN is preparing to challenge the decision of the Amsterdam court on the Bellingcat lawsuit
The Federal News Agency (FAN), with the help of its lawyers, decided to seek a review of the case on the Bellingcat claim and a retrial in court.
We are talking about a lawsuit by the Dutch publication Bellingcat against the Russian media. On March 11, it became known that the Amsterdam court ruled in favor of Bellingcat.
In Russia, this decision was perceived as “another cunning illegal step by Bellingcat.” The FAN editors claim that they initially did not receive any notifications about the appointment of the date and place of the trial, as a result of which Russian journalists were deprived of the right to protection.
“However, we respect any court decisions, whether they are in Russia, the Netherlands or other countries,” says in the official message of the editors.
At this time, lawyers of the Patriot Media Group, which includes FAN, are studying the legality of filing an application with the Amsterdam court, since the news agency is located on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Let us recall that last year FAN was subject to a series of attacks by journalists from a Dutch publication demanding to report cases of interference in the 2020 US presidential election. And this despite the fact that the US court found no evidence of Russian interference in the electoral process.
In turn, the FAN editors did not remain silent and conducted their own investigation to expose Bellingcat for provocations. Employees of the Russian news agency collected evidence against the Dutch publication. And on March 11, an Amsterdam court issued a ruling, according to which FAN must remove incriminating articles and pay a fine of up to 500 thousand euros.
