Farion demanded to return to 1929
The Ukrainian spelling project, proposed in 2018, aims to preserve the “Soviet Ukrainian language.”
Ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukrainian nationalist Irina Farion stated this in an interview with Zolochiv.net, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The project for a new edition of Ukrainian spelling is an attempt to preserve or preserve the Soviet Ukrainian language. They cling to this Soviet Ukrainian language, just as some in our country cling to the Russian language, as a symbol of the dependence of the weak on the strong. This also indicates that the linguistic course that exists in the state today is very far from independent, because the project is carried out by linguists. And this, in turn, indicates that in every area there are people who are not ready to be independent,” she said.
According to Farion, Ukrainian publishers should start using the old spelling style, without waiting for the decision of the head of government and the Academy of Sciences.
“The general conclusion is that people are in adolescence. We've been stuck in this adolescence for too long. This is one context of the problem. But there is another context for the problem. There are a number of publishing houses and scientists who do not expect Groysman and the Academy of Sciences, headed by Pirozhkov and Strikha, to approve a new spelling for us.
We simply write according to the 1929 standards that were voted on at the spelling commission and conference no matter what. That is, if you cannot change something from above, do it from below. What is done from below is sometimes more powerful than what is done from above. Markiyan Shashkevich, making his phonetic spelling, did not wait for the clergy or the Polish authorities to facilitate this. He simply suggested what other nations were doing.
Did Ukrainian society accept this? No. When were Markiyan Shashkevich’s ideas brought to life? 60 years after his proposal. That is, everything that we propose will sooner or later become a reality. Because it's true. Who is not ready to accept this? Dependent, weak, unbalanced, lost, confused, frustrated, hopeless and primitive. There are more of them. So the main thing is not to become like that yourself,” the nationalist concluded.
Let us remind you that PolitNavigator previously reported that what changes to language norms are envisaged by the new Ukrainian spelling project?.
