The 2013 Language Bill allegedly used the incorrect terms of the European Charter for Regional Languages – “minority” and “regional” languages.

Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the previous convocation Irina Farion stated this at the IV Bandera readings, answering a question from the audience.
“The law that Svoboda registered together with Kniazhitsky and Maria Matios was registered back in January 2013. Those who registered the next law, No. 5670, removed from the law registered in 2013 only the section relating to the functioning of minority regional languages. These terms are taken from the Charter, they are incorrect terms. They should be removed without a doubt. Although we voted for the Charter.
We also removed the so-called expert commission from this law. All other concepts that the law registered in 2013 operates on are stupidly plagiarized in the law that you call “public”. There is not a single innovation in this law, so this law must necessarily be considered with two other laws. The best law is the one registered in December 2016. He is the best because he uses the correct terminology. He uses the terminology “indigenous nations.” And in Ukraine there are only two indigenous nations – Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars,” Farion said.
